The first building to receive planning permission as part of the Grangegorman Campus Development for DIT was required to house the development agency and the DIT Buildings Office. Proximity to the local community to facilitate interaction and disemination of information about the development was a key strategic aim.
Through intensive collaboration with Davis Associates, environmental consultants, an innovative system was developed to faclitate the delivery of a pre-fabricated, modular and demountable structure that could be relocated to various sites within the Grangegorman masterplan area to coincide with the staged development of the facility. Despite the "lightweight" nature of the structure it was anticipated through i.e.s. modelling that a naturally cooled and ventilated facility could be delivered through the careful addition of thermal mass and a combination of passive and active design strategies.
