Although the site for this project was initially daunting, being on a north facing slope, the eventual solution  resulted in a house that was sited to maximise shelter in an exposed coastal location without compromising the stunning views and potential for solar access. The building fabric is highly insulated & breathable. Space heating is predominantly from biomass with back up from a renewable resource . The solar water heating system has an integrated solar PV panel which powers the pump ensuring the supply of hot water even in power cuts. The natural stone cladding has been detailed to ensure compatability with the breathable timber frame and was sourced from within 5 kilometers of the site. On site waste water treatment is provided naturally through gravity fed vertical and horizontal flow reed beds.
